Tallis Choir of Toronto celebrates two contemporary giants – William Byrd and William Shakespeare – with a program linking their works. The program features music by Byrd, Cutting, Morley, and Johnson from All’s Well That Ends Well, Hamlet, Twelfth Night, The Merry Wives of Windsor, and The Tempest. Also included are Byrd’s Praise Our Lord, Te Deum, Ave Verum Corpus, and Exalt Thyself O God. Joining the choir are guest artists Philip Fournier (organ and harpsichord), Felix Deak (viola da gamba), and Lucas Harris (lute).
The Tallis Choir is now in its 38th season. Since the spring of 2003, Peter Mahon, known as a singer and conductor, has served as artistic director. Our goal is to bring audiences polished performances of both familiar and rarely heard music, programmed to provide insight into the music’s context.
