Nada te turbe is a poem, also a prayer, composed by the great mystic and doctor Saint Teresa of Avila. ‘Let nothing disturb you’ is fitting for our turbulent times. When we pray at Mass after the Our Father, ‘and free us from all anxiety’, the Latin is ‘ab omni perturbatione securi ‘. Preserve us from all distress, anxiety and perturbation of soul, which is what Saint Teresa is reiterating.
Anon, here is the short prayer in full, with English translation:
Nada te turbe,
nada te espante
todo se pasa,
Dios no se muda,
la paciencia todo lo alcanza,
quien a Dios tiene nada le falta
sólo Dios basta.
Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you;
all things pass, God does not change;
patience attains all; one who has God lacks nothing;
God alone suffices.
Amen.
