On January 10, 1963, the Hon. A.S. Herlong Jr., a judge and Democratic congressman from Florida (1949-1969) read a document into the U.S. House of Representatives record entitled Communist Goals for Taking Over America. The contents remain in the Congressional record to this day.
The document was reviewed the same year by the U.S. Senate under the title: Current (1963) Communist Goals. This was the same year that prayer was banned in American schools and President John F. Kennedy was assassinated.
But it wasn’t until five years later – 1968 – that the extent to which leftist ideology had already penetrated western culture began to be recognized.
With the anti-communist Vietnam War moving steadily towards its sickening climax, students were rioting in 200 American universities while African Americans were setting some of the country’s largest cities on fire. And young activists such as Tom Hayden and Bill Ayers – who later became university professors – first appeared on the scene, lighting ideological fires wherever tinder could be found. Martin Luther King and Robert F. Kennedy were also assassinated and President Lyndon Johnson – an early casualty of the now-suddenly-leftist-driven media – decided not to seek re-election.
Yet America’s troubles were only just beginning. The sexual revolution was ramping up in ways hitherto unseen, making sex the measure of all things, and the response to Pope Paul VI’s 1968 encyclical Humanae Vitae – reiterating the Church’s condemnation of abortion and contraception – was so savage and so orchestrated one can be forgiven for suspecting there was more to the viciousness than met the eye.
Meanwhile, as all this was occurring, the Soviets were crushing the Czechs for attempting liberation through their ill-fated Prague Spring of 1968 – a warning to the world and to the many nation-states of the 20th century which had been, one after another, turned into giant prison camps in which every aspect of life was under the absolute power of a ruthless bureaucratic tyranny. And though some were eventually freed by the so-called collapse of communism in the early 1990s, countries such as North Korea, Vietnam, China, Cuba and now Venezuela remain communist dictatorships, all thanks to the ideology of Karl Marx and its quest to bring down the West by eradicating its cornerstone, Christianity, and obliterating all memory of Jesus Christ, as evidenced in the Communist Agenda read into the Congressional record in 1963.
Mere coincidence? Conspiracy theory?
Was all this coincidental? Can it be explained away as mere ‘conspiracy theory’, that clever tactic used by leftists to urge news consumers to dismiss as fiction, even lies, any inconvenient facts that expose the truth of their murderous ideology and its methods?
Fifty-five years on, much has changed. The Soviet Union has gone and Communism is never mentioned by the controlled mainstream media. Why? Because Communist ideology – which has been directly responsible for well over 100 million deaths, and which trades under several interchangeable names (Socialism, Marxism, Progressivism, Liberalism etc) – has become the dominant force in the Western world, and now controls virtually every geopolitical, social, cultural and commercial aspect of human existence. And more importantly, most of the original 45 goals have already been achieved, leaving the entire West morally and culturally enfeebled.
Even so, decide for yourself how effective those goals – as outlined by the congressman in 1963 and accomplished by stealth and most without a vote being cast – were in advancing the ruination of the once Christian West.
Communist Goals 1963
Among them were the following: Persuade the U.S. to totally disarm as a demonstration of American moral strength; Advocate free trade among all nations regardless of Communist affiliation; Extend American aid to all nations regardless of Communist domination; Grant recognition of Red China and Red China’s admission to the UN; Allow all Soviet satellites individual representation in the UN; Promote the UN as the only hope for mankind; Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party; Capture one or both the political parties in the U.S.
The socially transformative goals: Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights; Get control of the schools and use them as transmission belts for socialism and Communist propaganda; Get control of teachers’ associations and put the party line in textbooks; Gain control of all student newspapers; Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations opposing Communism.
Propaganda goals: Infiltrate the press; Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policymaking positions; Gain control of key positions in radio, TV and motion pictures; Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression; Control art critics and directors of art museums.
Goals for moral degradation: Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship” and a violation of free speech and free press; Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio and TV; Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy”; Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion; Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a “religious crutch”; Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of “separation of church and state”.
Goals to position government for the seduction of socialism: Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, out of step with modern needs; Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture-education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.; Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus; Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities; Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions; Infiltrate and gain control of big business.
Finally, the goals to transform the traditional family: Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies; Treat all behavioural problems as psychiatric disorders which no-one but psychiatrists can understand or treat; Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals; Discredit the family as an institution; Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce; Emphasise the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents; Attribute prejudices to the suppressive influence of parents; Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition, that students and special-interest groups should rise up and use united force to solve economic, political or social problems.
Summer 2018
Which brings us to the summer of 2018 in Toronto, which has seen some of the greatest violence this city and its suburban centres have ever witnessed. Indeed, 2018 is on track to be the most violent year Toronto has ever endured. By July 4, shooting occurrences had risen to 208, shooting victims 274. And this doesn’t include the stabbings reported nearly every night.
According to Toronto Sun columnist, Sue Ann Levy, the carnage is occurring as a direct consequence of liberal policies emanating from City Hall where any sense of reality or understanding of human nature is in short supply.
“The mayor himself and the pack of ideologues on council helped make this crisis happen,” Levy charged earlier this month. “They’ve done so by refusing to look beyond the end of their noses as they enact foolish policies; by pandering to a very vocal minority and by being in denial to the point of ignorance about the lawlessness festering on the streets outside the confines of City Hall. It wasn’t enough that council and the mayor threw police under the bus on the Pride parade issue — clearly sending the message that the alleged hurts of a fringe group … are more important than supporting our cops.” Meaning the police whose job it is to maintain the order of the city and to protect its citizens and whose powers are now being substantially weakened by reducing their numbers and by political correctness, rendering them increasingly unfit for purpose.
There’s more, Levy wrote, as she accused the Toronto Police Services Board (TPSB) of kowtowing to Leftist activist groups to such an extent that they ended stripping officers of essential tools needed to properly and proactively deal with street gangs and the violence endemic to their neighbourhoods. Add to that a police officers’ hiring freeze and drug and shelter policies which guarantee more – not less – of the social pestilences now deeply troubling the city.
The real culprit Levy is referring to is the ideology with so many names – popularly identified here as Liberalism – and all the destruction it has wreaked on the family where in some communities up to 80% of males are born to single mothers and remain fatherless throughout their young years. And with predictable results: Gangs, the natural consequence of fatherlessness which no politically correct policies emanating from city hall can correct – or even address.
Nor can an army of social workers fix this. Neither can battalions of psychologists, educators or ‘experts’ who take to the airwaves these days, prattling on with their prescriptions for reversing the carnage occurring on the mean streets of Toronto and beyond, which invariably call for ever more of the very leftist bromides that has been making our society so sick!
Summer 1968
How reminiscent all this is of the long hot summer of 1968. Same horrors, different year. Except for a critical difference. Today a much higher percentage of the Canadian population – as in the rest of the West – is either completely ignorant or intentionally misinformed about Catholicism and its teachings than in 1968 when Humanae Vitae stood like a cross before vampires, sending leftist liberals fleeing in every direction except towards God. It was also in 1968 that Justin Trudeau’s father, Pierre Trudeau, an open fan of the Chinese communists, became prime minister and a year later legalized abortion through the Liberals’ Omnibus Bill.
So who should be surprised when his son denies any Canadian applying for government grants for summer jobs if they oppose abortion? Such individuals or pro-life groups that explicitly oppose abortion are “not in line with where we are as a government and, quite frankly, where we are at as a society,” he said, apparently comfortable in his brazen denial of the Charter right of free expression, a denial that Conrad Black recently described as verging “on evil” and “almost certainly illegal.”
Fatima the answer
All of which also gives even further credence – as if any were needed – to the predictions of Our Lady of Fatima who, in 1917, the same year the Russian Revolution was ignited, said that if Russia was not consecrated to her Immaculate Heart, Russia’s errors would spread throughout the world.
Which they have. Demonstrably so. Again and again.
But Our Lady also provided another answer which, though it cannot replace a public consecration of Russia fulfilling her request, is still a very powerful answer to all the above. This is why the recent news that National Rosary organizers from around the world are joining forces to create a new “Holy League” is so timely.
There have been a number of “Holy Leagues” in history, national allies coming together to protect Christendom from its political enemies. But now, inspired by the mass rosary prayer events of recent months, the organizers of the American Rosary Coast to Coast have invited Catholics around the world to join them in a worldwide 54 day novena, beginning at 4pm ET on August 15, the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and culminating in a rosary on October 7, the Feast of the Most Holy Rosary.
“The formation of the New Holy League of Nations declares a united front in the worldwide spiritual battle, defending the dignity of the human person – life, marriage, family, as well as religious liberty,” organizers of Rosary Coast to Coast stated in a July 3 press release.
“This ‘declaration of war’ is ‘not against flesh and blood; but against principalities and power, against the rulers of the world of this darkness, against the spirits of wickedness in the high places.” (Ephesians 6:12),” Rosary Coast-to-Coast explained. “Together we are calling upon God, through the powerful intercession of Our Lady of the Rosary, to heal our countries and return them to Holiness.”
Every group that participates is asked to choose intentions specific to their nation.
