Palestrina’s Viri Galilaei, the text taken from the antiphon from second Vespers of the Ascension, was first published in 1569, recounts the joyful wonder of the Apostles as they witnessed their Lord ascend bodily into heaven, whence He shall return again, at an hour willed by the Father.
