I never saw the film, which came out in 1981, but someone sent me clip, which is oddly, even ominously, prescient – so much so, that I have this suspicion that it might be a deep fake. Was someone trying to tell us something, someway, somehow? Or was it just an strange coincidence? Both actors are still alive – the eponymous André Gregory and Wallace Shawn, both playing themselves, the latter known to many readers as the guy from Princess Bride who dies laughing at his own supposed smarts after being outsmarted by the Dread Pirate Roberts.
But who’s outsmarting whom, now?
