On 6 February 2015, the Supreme Court of Canada unanimously struck down the ban on physician-assisted suicide stating, “The prohibition on physician-assisted suicide infringes on the right to life, liberty and security of the person in a manner that is not in accordance with the principles of fundamental justice.” The Federal Parliament has one year to draft new legislation that allows consenting adults who are enduring physical or mental suffering to request medical aid in ending their lives.
